About Dance with Wheels
India's first
women-led
wheelchair dance platform.
A disability-led non-profit creating safe and empowering spaces where women with disabilities can explore dance, sports, creativity and leadership.
Who We Are
Dance with Wheels (DWW) is India’s first women-led wheelchair dance platform, empowering girls and women with disabilities to dance, express, and lead with confidence.
What began as a small WhatsApp group of just 3–4 women has now grown into a powerful and inclusive movement connecting women across multiple states in India.
We are a disability-led non-profit initiative creating safe and empowering spaces where women with disabilities can explore their potential through dance, sports, creativity, and community.
At Dance with Wheels, we believe that dance is not just an art — it is identity, expression, freedom, and strength.
Our Story
Dance with Wheels was founded in 2024 by Priya Sharma, a wheelchair user, para athlete, and disability inclusion advocate.
After a life-changing spinal cord injury, Priya faced social barriers, lack of awareness, and limited opportunities. Through resilience, sports, and self-belief, she rebuilt her life and discovered the power of movement and community.
During her journey, she met many girls with disabilities who were isolated and lacked opportunities to express themselves.
The idea of Dance with Wheels was inspired by para-athlete Ekta Bhyan, who encouraged Priya to bring together girls with disabilities and explore wheelchair dance in India — a space that was largely unexplored. Her belief became the spark behind this initiative.
At the same time, a deeply personal moment shaped this vision. About a year after her injury, Priya attended her sister’s wedding — her first time stepping into a social gathering after the accident. She felt hesitant and unsure about facing people.
But in that moment, her siblings encouraged her to dance. Sitting in her wheelchair, she began to move her hands, and her family cheered her on.
That small moment became powerful.
For the first time after her injury, she felt confidence, joy, and a sense of freedom.
It was then that Priya realized —
dance is not just movement; it has the power to heal, to uplift, and to transform lives — not only physically, but mentally and emotionally.
With this belief, she chose dance as a tool for change.
What began as a small WhatsApp group of a few women connecting and practicing together has now grown into a national movement — empowering women with disabilities through expression, confidence, and community.
Today, Dance with Wheels continues to create spaces where women can rediscover themselves, build confidence, and take the stage with pride.
At Dance with Wheels, we believe dance is not just an art — it is identity, expression, freedom and strength.
"Disability is not a limitation. With the right support and opportunity, it can become strength."
— Priya Sharma, Founder
